SPE France is the French Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), an international not-for-profit professional association for engineers, scientists and other professionals working in oil and gas and related energy fields.
The Section has several hundred members, including students and industry professionals. It is run by volunteers who organise technical lectures, webinars and professional meetings in France.
Our History
SPE France was founded on 27 February 1984. Its establishment was recorded in the French Journal officiel in May of that year.
On 20 March 2025, the Section held its 40th-anniversary celebration at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris. SPE members, industry representatives and Young Professionals attended the event.

What We Do
Technical Talks & Distinguished Lectures
SPE France hosts lectures and webinars by engineers, researchers and SPE Distinguished Lecturers. Topics include reservoir engineering, production operations, digital technologies and carbon storage.
Professional Networking
Our meetings take place in Paris, Pau and online. They give participants an opportunity to discuss technical subjects with speakers and colleagues from other organisations.
Industry–Academia Collaboration
SPE France works with educational institutions, including IFP School and the University of Lorraine, on activities involving engineering students and industry professionals.
International Collaboration
The Section also works with SPE groups outside France, including through joint events for Young Professionals.
Our Community in Action
In March 2025, SPE France hosted SPE Beyond the Borders in Paris. Young Professionals from several countries attended technical discussions and networking sessions.
In April 2025, the Section hosted a regional PetroBowl qualifying competition, where student teams tested their knowledge of petroleum engineering.
SPE volunteers, universities and industry partners help organise these activities.
